2 Firsts

Today Kaylee had 2 first time events happen, and sadly I was unable to digitally document these events.  So I will put it in writing!

This morning Kaylee had her first swim lesson.  It may have not looked like much, but progress was made.  Kaylee was not interested at all with anything pool related once we arrived at the swim school ( Murray Callan Swim School ).  She was anxious, didn't want to put on her swimming suit, and she wanted to leave.  The swimming staff was very aware of Kaylee's anxiety.  So they suggested we get a swimming toy, hang out in the shallow entry area, and casually follow the class over to the instructor section.  After a little bit of time, and several toys, Kaylee was comfortable being there but still super cautious.  The instructor, Marcie, gave me a few more tips and a quick overview of the swimming school philosophy, and the goals of our first lesson.  Marcie's plan was to get Kaylee comfortable with her by interacting with her in between instruction with her other students.  Marcie played with the toys, and asked for high-fives, which Kaylee was okay with.  By the end of our 30 minutes Kaylee didn't move from her spot on the step, but she did know who Marcie was, she did observe all of the other students "swim", and she didn't want to leave.  So progress was made!

We quickly rinsed off, got dressed, and I had Kaylee say good-bye to Marcie.  I am super excited for our next lesson on Tuesday.  We go Tuesday/Thursday at 11:10am.  There is a little girl that is Kaylee's age, who was on her 4th lesson today, and she was going off with Marcie to "swim" and allowing her to put her face in the water.  Her mother told me that her first lesson went very much like our lesson today.  So I am completely impressed, and of course I hope that Kaylee becomes comfortable in the water and with our instructor.

The other first of the day involved the potty.  Kaylee peed in the potty today!  Now it wasn't a lot, and I know it was a ploy to avoid bedtime.  But pee is pee, and it went into her potty!

I was informing her that it was time to brush our teeth and put our pajamas on.  We got through the brushing of the teeth part, however, she wasn't a fan of the pajama part.  I got her bottoms off and she tells me she needs to go potty.  Alright, lets go.  Knowing very well she was doing anything she could to avoid bedtime.  So she sits on the potty and we read our books.  At least 5 books later I casually look into the potty and I see some liquid.  Barely any at all and it looked like water.  I said to Kaylee, you peed!  She looks ... oh.  She asks if she pooped, and sit back down.  So yes, Kaylee peed in the toilet, but I am certain that she didn't make the connection between the body signals and the action.  I do know that Kaylee will pull the potty card any time she doesn't want to do get ready for bed, take a shower, or get dressed after a shower.  As much as I am excited about the idea of not having to buy or change another diaper, I am not all that excited about the clean up.

So today started and ended with a first.  Not a bad day at all!
