Today Kaylee had her three year checkup. And I was very proud of her because she did not cry or require that I hold her. She allowed the nurse to weigh her, measure her height, and take her blood pressure with a bp cuff. When I asked Kaylee what is this for, pointing to the blood pressure cuff, an Kaylee replies to take my blood pressure. The nurse was surprised by her response and gave Kaylee a high-five.
Kaylee's cooperation was limited to the nurse. Although Kaylee did not fuss or cry when the Nurse Practitioner examined her, she just played asleep and would not open her eyes or mouth. When the NP said you may get dressed, then Kaylee perked up and talked with the NP.
So the exam covered the routine exam. There were no shots necessary this trip. Her weight and height are in the low percentile compared to other kids her age but there is no true concern as long as she continues to grow. Kaylee's past blood test show no sign of anemia, so as long as there is no decrease in appetite her size is just a reflection of her genetics. The NP recommends butter and olive oil, and plenty of protein, continue milk at night, consider mixing milk with pedisure (I mentioned we use Carnation Instant Breakfast because it is more affordable and the entire family uses it), and high calorie/high nutritious foods.
We had a mole on her head looked at as well. It is fine and we are to continue watching it.
Kaylee's raspberry on her belly is following the normal fading pattern. Expect it to disappear around age five.
Road trip tips, avoid constipation through proper liquid intake and activity when possible. Apparently constipation occurs frequently in kids during long travels because of low fluid intake and low activity.
So the official stats:
Height - 35.7" (14%ile)
Weight - 25.2 with shoes (5%ile)
When we returned home the first thing Kaylee played doctor. I think her toy doctor bag and Doctor McStuffins on Disney helped make this doctor visit a lot less painful than the previous ones. I was very proud of her.
