17-months

This last month has flown by.  Speaking of flying, Kaylee and I took a spontaneous flight up to San Francisco.  So this month there were a few firsts ... Kaylee's first overnight trip away from Dad, she attended her first marathon, and her first time playing at the neighborhood park in Indian Springs.

Our spontaneous trip to San Francisco and Salinas was a great warm-up trip for the time that we'll be in Las Vegas for my half-marathon in December.  I have a better idea of what I'll need to bring to make our accommodations more home-like.

Kaylee is starting to have a strong opinion on what she wants and what she wants to do.  If she wants to leave, she'll gather her things and point at the door.  If she wants to go bye-bye she'll point at the stroller or sign "car".  Of course she doesn't always get her way and that leads to some crying.  But we try our best to either explain why not, and or distract.  The distraction tactic is very useful!

Kaylee has been letting me know more frequently that she needs to be changed, which is a sign that potty training is a possibility.  I have started the research process on potty training, and trying to prepare myself for the milestone.  I am also watching her cues, informing her of what she is doing and what the toilet and toilet paper are used for.

New stats:
~ unofficially weighs 20lbs, with jeans on!

Words:
Kaylee has really been working on her talking, nothing coherent, but she puts together a bunch of sounds and just lets you know how it is.  It is a lot of fun to have conversations with her.  Her new words are: "Elm" = Elmo, and "May" = Momma

New signs:
~ book
~ pumpkin
~ spider (sort of does it)
~ baby
~ fox (she made this one up)
~ Blue's Clue (tv show)
~ potty (looks like her wave, but again, all in context)

New skills:
~ pushes the stool to the refrigerator and with cup in hand gets her own water from the water dispenser
~ points to the door when she wants to leave
~ her dance now includes some arm movements

Halloween is just a few days away.  This year, if she lets us, she'll be a duck.  I thought a duck was a good costume since it is one of the few words that she says very clearly.  I hope she lets us dress her up because she is an adorable duck!
