Swimming!

So, my not so secret plan to tire Kaylee out and get us on some type of schedule is working!

Today was Kaylee's first swim lesson in almost a year. We babysit Austin on Thursdays, which happens to be the day of his swim lesson. Last week we took Austin to his lesson while Kaylee and I watched. That one time was enough to get Kaylee wanting to do swim lessons herself. Originally, I planned to find a swim school closer to our house sometime in February. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get Kaylee some lessons especially when she expressed interest and we were taking Austin anyways.

We got lucky today and were able to move Kaylee's noon lesson to 11:40, the same time and instructor as her BFF Austin. The lessons are short, 20 minutes long, but it appears they move the skills right along. Kaylee put her face in the water several times and pushed off the wall to her instructor. When the instructor is working with Austin, Kaylee is on his back, observing all that Austin is doing. We are hoping that seeing Austin do certain skills will positively influence Kaylee to try too. The instructor said that they teach water survival/safety, then actually swimming. And after the lesson the kids played for 20 minutes in the shallow portion of the pool. And amazingly enough the lesson already proved effective. While playing in the shallow pool Kaylee's nose dipped under the water a bit and she was all "See Mom, did you see me Mom?" Meaning she didn't panic.

And in addition to teaching Kaylee to be water safe, it is also increasing her appetite! It's a win-win-win-win! Water safe, eating more, a tired baby, and quality time with Austin.
