Today was a great day. It was Kaylee's first day of preschool and she was amazing. Curtis and I started the day around 6am. I took Baylee on short run. Then started making Kaylee's power pancakes, whole wheat pancakes made with flax seed, applesauce, and a touch of vanilla. Kaylee woke up on her own at 7am. I heard her waking and headed upstairs. She said good morning to me, then about 5-seconds later she goes,
"Do you know what day it is?!".
And I reply, "What day is it?".
"FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!".
I guess she is excited.
Before leaving the house we take a ton of pictures. Here are just a few that are on my phone.
She picked out her outfit the day before. We reminded her that she might get dirty in preschool, and that it is okay to get messy, but to wear clothes that won't make her upset if it gets dirty. I packed her a snack that consisted of meat and cheese, and drinkable applesauce. I didn't provide a drink because they practice pouring their own water into a cup.
Kaylee wanted to drive in Curtis's truck. She was a little big nervous. She was quiet on the drive. We arrive 15-minutes early. We took lots of pictures on the campus. Here are some phone pictures of that:
When the door opened Curtis walked her in.
We signed her in, she put her snack bag in her cubby, gave us a kiss and started to run off. Curtis grabbed her for a photo op with the other camera (to be uploaded later). After our pictures Curtis and I left the room. We sneaked a peek and Kaylee was sitting on the rug with the teacher and other students. Curtis took a couple more pictures and Kaylee waved at him. She was all smiles. We left then and headed off to breakfast. Curtis summed it up by saying, "This places feels right. Good job finding it."
Curtis and I enjoyed breakfast.
And before you know it, it was time to pick her up. She was all smiles when we got her. She told the teacher, "See you Wednesday!". As we walked out Kaylee goes, "Did you miss me?". Of course we did!, we replied. We recorded our 20-question session about her day. Her favorite part of the day was playing on the play structure. She made a bluebird craft and colored a bluebird. She said she used the bathroom all by herself and used the small sink (she finds sinks and toilets that are her size fascinating). After our attempt to question her we headed to frozen yogurt. A reasonable lunch for a 3-hour preschool session.
On Wednesday it will be just Kaylee and I. Curtis will be at work. Who knows what I'll do during the preschool hours. Maybe I'll be one of the lingering parents. I'd love to see how Kaylee interacts with the teachers and other students without parental influence. It just makes you hope that we've done the best we can in guiding our little being. And there is so much more ahead.
A great first day Kaylee Ann! Mommy and Daddy love you! (Much to our surprise, Kaylee can read that last sentence. Which was the note I left on Kaylee's snack bag.).
